The theme of the January Moustache Stationery box was Coffee and Tea.
Here’s what came in the box!
A Tombow Kei Coat Double-Sided Highlighter.
I love getting Japanese products in the original packaging. It’s much more interesting than the english language packaging! This highlighter will be really useful – a fat end for highlighting and a thin end for underling.
A couple of custom made bookmarks on the theme of the box; coffee and tea.
Custom made mini sticky notes with coffee mug stains – these are really clever!
Platinum Pretty Fountain Pen. Another Japanese item. This one looks very similar to the Pilot Petit. I’ll have to do a comparison at some point.
A custom made A5 notebook.
I like this detail on the front cover.
And the bronze spiral binding is a nice touch.
I do think this is a nice box, and I really hate to be negative but there were a few gripes I had with this edition:
- The box was bigger than a letterbox so I had to go to the post office to collect it
- There weren’t many branded products. I think when you’re paying almost $40, you expect to get more items that you can see the value in. In past boxes, getting higher value items like a Leutchtturm 1917 notebook or whole box of Blackwing pencils was really exciting, you can see how the items would add up to $40 or more. When the majority of items are custom made, it’s less clear to see if you’re getting a good deal. And I think what Moustache Stationery has become known for is picking out great brands form around the world and introducing you to them. I’m not sure that custom items are necessarily what subscribers would want (perhaps I’m wrong?), unless maybe they’re collaborations, like the Moustache Stationery x Write Notepads from the Made in America box.
- The tissue paper left a fine black dust on everything (not a big deal at all, but note worthy!)
As you know I’ve always been a fan of Moustache Stationery and I expect to see great thing in the future. I hope these issues are just one offs!
Please note I was sent this box free of charge for the purpose of this post but all views are my own.
